MCP23017-E/SP General Description

The MCP23017/MCP23S17 (MCP23X17) product family is designed to fulfill the need for 16-bit general-purpose parallel I/O expansion for I2C bus or SPI applications. With the MCP23017 featuring an I2C interface and the MCP23S17 featuring an SPI interface, these devices offer flexibility to accommodate various communication protocols. The MCP23X17 includes multiple 8-bit configuration registers for input, output, and polarity selection, allowing for customizable I/O configurations. Additionally, the device can operate in 8-bit or 16-bit modes via IOCON.BANK, enabling versatile usage in different system setups. The interrupt pins, INTA and INTB, provide valuable input change notifications to the system master and can be configured to activate under specific conditions. The MCP23X17 also includes a Power-on Reset (POR) function, ensuring reliable operation by setting the registers to their default values and initializing the device state machine upon power-up. With hardware address pins determining the device address, the MCP23017/MCP23S17 devices offer comprehensive I/O expansion capabilities in various applications
