PEPS Keyless Entry Solution Based on NXP NCF29A1

Published Published: Apr 27, 2023      Automotive Electronics      Share:

PEPS (Passive Entry & Passive Start) is gradually developing and growing as a new generation of anti-theft technology, which has gradually entered the mid-range market from the premium car market. Not only high-end car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW have widely adopted PKE, but also mid-range models such as Ford Mondeo, Nissan's Skyline and the new Mazda have adopted this technology.

PEPS is not a traditional key, but a smart key, similar to a smart card. When the driver steps into the designated range, the system automatically opens the door by identifying the driver if he or she is legally authorized to do so. Once in the car, the driver only needs to press one button to activate the ignition switch.

NXP Semiconductors, a global leader in secure, connected cars, recently introduced the world's first true single-chip smart car access solution, the NCF29A1, which combines a keyless system (PKE), remote RF transmitter and anti-theft locking system in an HVQVN32 package.

With this ultra-compact device, a new key shape and form factor can be implemented in a smartphone, smartwatch or smartphone case to support the refinement of automotive access control systems through mobile devices. Unlike traditional solutions in the market, the NCF29A1 enhances the automotive customer experience by enabling, for example, a welcome light or leave auto lock function with a longer control range and lower energy consumption.

Pinnacle's PEPS solution is based on NXP's NCF29A1, and with its compact design, it can be embedded in a watch for convenient keyless entry and one-touch start.
